On this paid job I was really convinced after the shooting, that I have the right tool to do this kind of work, cover the hole 6 miles canoe race with documentary photos. Using from DJI the Phantom 3 Professional.

The finale product ( photos ) it will be used on the website from the kanuschule-bodensee.ch and for the individual water sportsman it`s gone be a good souvenir for them.
The race time from over a hour was quite a challenge for me, to save battery power all the time.
The winner came in after 01:00:18! the last one after 01:40:24. With my 6 batteries not that easy to do.
Before we had this amazing flying eyes we would have done this job with 2 Photographer on to boat and one land based. Sure this pictures are good and common but not that extraordinary like mine, shot from above with a flying cam. Not to mentioned, the working time efforts I saved this way a lot of pre organization. Ok, at least by the shooting. The postproduction time stays the same.

It was so easy to change really fast the camera position from start to the buoys, up high in the air or just instantly low on the buoy. Not making any waves like with a boat where I just would disturb the race.

My position was on the jetty just beside to the race judges. Not a lot of space and again I had to start and land out of my hand. On the ground from the concrete jetty a hade compass errors, so it was impossible to start from there. The advantage of this place was that I just hear all the information about the race positions and times from each individual boat.

To making a low angel shot I brought the Phantom just close to the water and behind the buoy. By turning the copter and shooting simultaneously I got a series of pictures right by the turns, where I could pick the best at the end. Just do start away from the point and go fast to the next position.
What I really want to say is; this amazing flying tool can be applied in my daily working routine and helps me a lot. I just carry it always in my car so that I have it just by my hand when I need it.
I got so affected already 😉
A wish for the future….more resolution and variable focal length! hopefully possible in small copter like P3-P4?
